ok here goes i have a 2ft tank and am in the process of setting up my 4ft tank

i have 3 internal filters 1 is in the 2ft and 2 other ones.

this is what i plan to do take the filter out of the 2 ft and add that to my 4ft put the new filter all with new filter pads in the 2ft and the the other filter in the 4 ft also.

would it still be advisable to add amonia or do you think the cycling would sart ok with the other filter from the old tank filter,it has been in there about 6 months hopefully get test kit tomorrow to check all levels any advice or info would be greatly appreciated thanks

Are you movng the fish over with the filter?
If so you can bypass a cycle but if you want to keep the small tank runnig you'll have to keep some filter media in it.
I'd swish the filter media from the small tank in the new tank & then put it back. This should boost start a fishless cycle & should speed it up considerably.

Hiya

You will no doubt get plenty of answers on this topic!
(though your post was rather hard to read - occasional paragraph hehehe)

Your 2ft is cycled and has a bacteria colony - but - I doubt enough to bypass the cycle completely in your new 4ft even if your put every thing in your 4ft and topped up the water- and certainly not from one filter pad.

Are you keeping the 2ft going - I assume you are?

As it stands I would take it that you will need to add ammonia to get it going.

You may be able to help the cycle even more by buy some filter media and hanging it in front of the filter exit in your 2ft - so that the media gets enveloped in bacteria and then really give the 4ft a kick start!

Best of luck with your tanks mate

sorry for the scrappy english i am keeping the 2ft running i was thinking of soaking all the new filter pads in the old tank till i was ready to set the bigger one up.

i also have some nutrafin cycle to add to the new tank but willstill get some ammonia
