Hi,
it might be a crazy question but
can i cycle a new tank with a glass of water taken from an established tank,
for instance from my local aquatic shop,
i ask this because i just looked a video on youtube from an experienced fishkeeper who claims it is
the easiest way to cycle a new tank.
Your opinions please.

No is the simple answer, its the filter thats cycled not the water.

Your best option would be to have some mature filter media put into your filter to help clone it.

like said no it wont do anything but you could always go to your lfs and ask if they will donate you some media to help you along :)

Agree with the others. The number of bacterial cells of the two autotrophic species we want that would be in the water at any given moment would be next to nothing compared to the number of cells on any surfaces where a flow was helping provide ammonia and oxygen. Mature media (filter media that's old with lots and lots of bacterial cells attached to it) is the only tried and true way to have a high chance of speeding up a nitrogen cycle process.
