HI,
i am thinking of getting started with a fishtank,i have never done it before,
but what is really putting me off is the amount of people on these forums who are having so much difficulty
with the cycling process, for a complete novice like me it seems so daunting,
what did people do before they had access to the internet,?
what did people do before they had forums like this one?
looking at the answers and questions you see on here it seems you need a degree in chemistry,

Without knowing it they "Fish IN" cycled their tanks. I bet there were quite a few people who had "unhealthy" fish from their LFS the first couple of times and then after a few months for some reason the quality of the LFS stock miraculously improved.

We're lucky we live in an age now where we can get this info. I found it daunting at first. Just keep reading and it'll all make more sense. Then there's always people here to help you :)

They read books...

Which cycling process do you mean? fishless or fish-in?
both types,

Go with the fishless cycling. It'll take time but will save you much heartache in the long run. Yes it is a bit confusing to start with but know that there are many people on here to whom you can always turn to for advice, who themselves have been through it all. If you do go ahead then you will get all the help you need on here.
