Hi Folks,

This is my first post. I joined a few months ago in anticipation of getting back into the hobby. Thanks to so many folks for wonderful information. Usually I can find answers to my questions without posting but this time, I don't seem to find the answer.

About a week ago I filled my tank and started a fishless cycle by adding the proper amount of ammonia. A few days ago I got some seeded media from a friend - a sponge from her HOB filter (she runs two filters on that tank so she offered to part with one). I cut up the sponge and dispersed it throughout my Eheim canister filter. This morning I tested again and voila - ammonia level is down, there's a nitrate spike and even a low reading of nitrates! I'm psyched!

My question is this. This morning I also notice some little white things floating in my tank. I have nothing in there except the substate. They look like little pieces of tissue - like a tissue got in there and came all apart. They are small, white wisps of something. They are floating and some have caught on the substrate. Any ideas what they could be? The filter doesn't seem to be removing them. Thanks in advance!

Larry

Did you mean a Nitrite Spike and some nitrate reading?

I would just vacuum and net all that stuff out of there. Just not to chance it. Good luck!

Yes, I meant nitrite spike and some nitrate reading. Thanks.

It really sounds like you have it under control.

The only other thing other than plastic I would think that could be is like old food particles from the seeded medium?

It would just be good to get it out, especially before adding fish.

Sounds like you should be done cycling soon :)
