Iā€™ve heard people using cuttlebone for snails. Do I just drop it in the tank? My nerite snails have chips on their shells and Iā€™m wondering if itā€™s from lack of calcium. I donā€™t have a calcium test kit though. My water ph is 8.0, will the cuttle bone mess with that or anything?

Indeed cuttlebone is a natural supplement for minerals that helps shrimps and snails and even crab shells development.

I used to add cuttlebone straight into the tank, after rinsing under tap first of course. Snails will crawl over it to eat or absorb the minerals needed, shrimps did this as well.

But I also added shrimp mineral balls as well for them, sometimes the snails would crawl over this as well so itā€™s possible that helped them too.

But yes, definitely can add cuttlebone for snails, certainly wonā€™t do any harm to the tank if itā€™s not needed anyhow.
