Crypt Tropica & Beckettii "petchii"

what's best way of planting.Cram them in tight or space out with room to grow (eventually)

I would say 2cm space at a maximum. I recieved similar advice from Caz and Ian and i have never looked back. They have grown really well.

Vertical? My crypts have always tended to lie flat when out in the open.

it depends on which crypt, to how they grow. Becktii 'Pet' is a low crypt, so won't tend to grow upwards. It's a great foreground crypt. The Tropica isn't a big crypt either, it's bigger than the 'pet', also don't expect massive amounts of growth, they are crypts at the end of the day. Also, crypts can be planted as close or as far apart a wanted really, they aren't a fussy plant.

Exactly the same as mine then. sounds exactly the same situation that i was in a few months back. I had 3 Wendtii brown and they were really splayed out, since i have increased them to about 12 or so plants and have them crammed together they have more or less formed into one big clump. I have mixed the Wendtii brown with the Tropica as they're similar to each other and creates a better effect imo.

Interesting.According to the Plant tags Pet grows taller, but i'll go with your experience.Time for slight rethink

I have used it a few times and it's grown about 4" max everytime. Where did you read that it grows bigger?

Minnt you look to have Wendtii brown and Tropica in you tank.

The Tropica website: Crypt wendtii "Tropica" 6-10cm

Crypt becketti "petchii" 10-15cm. Similar but pet can taller.

that's about right, 10cm is 4" give or take. Tropica grown Crypts are great quality as well. Just remember to keep trimming when they melt.

oh edit, i see what you mean about the Tropica, my Tropica's have always grown a bit bigger than that.

No i have the Petchii at the far right of the tank behind the tropica and wendtii. Mine is definately taller than the others atm.
