do crypts send out runners ? becauce 1 of mine seems to have a long thin stem about 12" long sticking straight up out of the middle, if so whats best to with it let it keep growing up or plant the end ?

Crypts don't send 12 inch runners out, my guess is you have an Echinodorus species.

Do you have an image?

Picture would help, but I'm with SBS on this one.

hi the pic is below and your right its not 12" its 11" just measured it

Flower stem?
My Sundews throw up shoots like that to flower......

wow, looks like a flower stem to me, Dave. Keep us updated on this one.

PS, does the plant have a bulb at the bottom? Because that looks like an Aponogeton stem?? Anyone else?

no its just a normal root, moved it to this tank 3 weeks ago from my other tank where it had been for 3-4 months

here it is today

looks like a stem from that pic. Can you get a closer pic of the top of the stem? The Crypt flower trumpets before flowering, a bit like a small lily flower. You are very lucky if it is a flower, as crypts rarely flower submersed. You're doing something right Dave! :good:

thinkl you may be right with the name of Aponogeton and think its the crispus as ive just been googling the name
is it a variant of crypt ? as i bought them as crypts
the roots are like the ones on a sword
anyway heres the tip of the stem

This is an aponogeton species. it's flowering. Hahahah, all I had to do was look a the picture. You just have some compact growth there. Nice find.

well i pulled up 1 of the littler ones and it does have a furry bulb on it so it is a aponogeton
