okay i have crypts, two maybe three to be precise :D are kinda happily growing in my tank,

i say kinda happy as there growing new leaves and the new leaves look healthy :) a nice bright green, but the older leaves have turned a purply colour? is this normal, should i cut these leaves off or just leave them?

also i notices one of my crypts at front of my tank it has started growing roots above the sand i was like #136### at first but should i push them down or is there something i can do? maybe re plant it? i have no idea tbh first time i have had plants :D

all info needed

FYI i have Cryptocoryne beckettii if this helps :D

If the old leaves that are discoloured are going all mushy then get them out asap. The roots above the surface one, it may not be a root it may be giving off a runner for a new plant so I'd leave it and see how it goes providing it's anchored well.

ah okay no my twisted vallas are melting and going mushy at moment so pulling them out day by day :D but i noticed they started growing new shoots :D there not going much just a purply colour, and i also hope there not roots but there hair like, very thin and there quite a few of them :S il try and get a pic at some point tomo doing water change tomo as well :)

okay here is a picture of the purple and a picture of the so called roots :) hope this helps :D

bump please someone help :) lol,

should i also cut of the leaves with algae?

yep cut the old leaves off from the base of the plant. Algae will also attack old leaves, so get rid as well. Most crypts will need there emersed leaves removing at some point.

sorry are the old leaves as in purple ones? because the purple leaves look healthier than the ones with algae on i shall cut them off :) if so then my crypts won't have any leaves :( lol

if the old leaves are healthy at the moment, then leave them, cut the algae ridden leaves off.

sweet will do :) sorry for the confusion :)

Hello there, I don't know if this is of any help to you but my crypt has done exactly the same. I was a little disappointed as I'd bought it specifically because it was a nice green and I already had a purply/brown one, however, as the purply/brown leaves looked healthy I let it get on with doing it's own thing. I think this may be natural for this type of crypt.

haha, thank you delta yes defiantly helped :) i did the same as you love the green :( shame really, but adds a bit of colour to my tank i guess i shall keep the purple ones looking at amazon swords on the opposite corner of my tank now :) its wired tho as the new leaves of my crypts are growing green the older leaves had either stayed green and have got algae on them or have turned purple lol the plants can't make its mind up :fun:
