I have just been cleaning my tropical fish tank and ive come across some really creepy bugs. Can any one tell me what they are and where and how they have got into my tank and what can i do to prevent them in the future.

They look a bit like damselfly/mayfly or dragon fly larvae. Are there three forks/prongs at the tail end?

Im not too sure I didnt look at them I have got rid of them. Any idea how I came to aquire them?

Transported in as eggs attached to a plant, piece of wood, stones etc.. or maybe something took a like to your tank during the summer and decided to lay its eggs in there.

Ok thanks should I be worried about them.

Dragonfly larvae will take small fish, not sure about the others. Keep any eye out for them in the tank and get rid of them as soon as you see them maybe. They may be something completely harmless, but they looked quite large in your photo. There are some in this video (not mine)

Thanks for that ill keep an eye out. They weren't that big just zoomed in.

Have to say these look like damselfly or possibly dragonfly nymphs.

You were right to takes these out.
Horrible little thing IMO but interesting creatures as long as they are not in your tank!

I've been through a similar thing myself. Here is my link if you are interested.
