Couple Of Questions

Hello im new to this fasinating hobbie. Ive recently bought a tropical fish tank. Ive set it all up. I have a few questions that would help me out alot if someone could answer them for me.

1. Ive been told that i can get benifical bacttira from a pond. Is that ok and how would i go about it?

2. Is there any test kits out there which can test for benifical bacttira?

3. Where can i buy amnoia from?

Sorry i cant spell very good.

It isnt a filtered pond. So should i just do a fish-less cycle like on this page

i think he was trying to see what area you are in as their is a few members that would give you some of their old meda for new i think

i would do the fish-less cycle as i am about to on my new 50g tank

3. If you're in the UK then try and get a hold of ammonia from a Boots/B&Q/Homebase or other hardware shop, the fishless cycling topic has a link to another topic about buying ammonia. I've successfully used this kind from Challs: http/www.max-on-line.co.uk/products/ammonia/index.html

Not sure if this helps at all i purchased a bottle of solution called cycle made by nutrafin basically adds good bacteria to your filter and speeds up the cycleing process seemed to work for me on my fry tank as i ran a cycle for around 2-3 weeks whilst adding flakes to it and had it tested at my local fish store and all test's were good (not sure on results but i trust the store he wouldnt sell me any fish until he had done this).

Thats cool if you cant find ammonia in those places, check wilko in the cleaning section for a bottle of 'Klean Off', i know they sell it for sure, ebay often has some aswell.
