Hey, I have a 55 US Gallon tank with 3 silver dollars, 1 spotted silver dollar, 3 red swordtails, 6 neon rainbowfish, 1 red-tailed black shark, and 4 aeneus corydoras. i dont follow the 1 inch per gallon rule, for i think this is stupid and doesnt make sense (i know i am overstocked with this rule as well). I have an aquaclear 300 and a topfin 60 filter, my ammonia-0, nitrite- 0, nitrate- 0. This is all very good, so i was wondering if i could add 5 marbled hatchetfish. since the top level of my tank is absolutely uninhabited, i thought these guys would be good. i need your opinions, thanks!

I think the 1" per gallon rule is krap also. IMO you could add the hatchets. Just keep up with the water changes...

Nitrates = 0 .... are you sure? A cycled tank should be registering some nitrates, so maybe your tester isn't working?

As said if your getting a 0 nitrates reading your test kit isnt working, even tapwater has nitrates present in varying quantities depending on where you live.
