I've always loved the look of Blyxa japonica, and I've had Blyxa aubertii in my tank before. Sadly, it died off.
I would love to try Blyxa japonica in my tank, now that I've a brighter light. I have sand substrate, single T5 tube with reflectors, weekly Seachem Flourish injections, daily Flourish Excel dosing. I have some Seachem root tabs I could put under the blyxa, since they like to have a nutritious substrate.
Would it survive? Thanks :good:

Could do but it prefers pressurised to excel.

I bought some blyxa japonica from an ebay seller and it arrived nice and healthy and bright green. After adding it to my tank (sand + gravel) it slowly started melting. I dosed regularly with fertilisers from aquaessentials, I contacted the seller who recommended JBL fert balls but it didn't seem to have any effect.

I then bought Colombo florabase substrate and added it over my existing gravel and sand as I didn't have it very deep already. I also upped CO2 from 1 to 2 canisters of DIY yeast. It has now started looking miles better, more growth and back to the bright green it used to be! I did also up my ferts, I add seachem iron once or so a week, and added more JBL fert balls.

Well, I don't have pressurized CO2 with sadly no plans to get it soon...Don't have fertilized substrate...so I don't think it'll work

Any other midground plants that look similar? I'm looking for something grassy and spacey but tall :good:

Hmm, I dunno...a foot tall in low light conditions doesn't make it much of a midground plant...And two inches in high light will look bad because I am planting it behind driftwood easily 4 inches tall....

I do like its appearence though...any other suggestions?

Do you think Vesuvius Sword would work in my conditions? It also gets a foot tall though...

And for a background plant, would Limnophila hippuroides work? It is a very lovely plant :good:

It would work but with out pressurised CO2 and quite a lot of light it wont keep its colour, also quite a difficult plant I believe.

Well I have T5s and daily liquid carbon...it said on a website it does well in almost any condition...

What about the Vesuvius Sword?

Sorry to pester, but would some Dwarf Onion Plants work?

iv got it surviving under 1 t8 bulb with no ferts no co2... its not doing as well as my high tech but its defiantly surviving
