hi I purchased a female and Male breeding pair of convict cichlids with eggs already laid, we noticed the eggs started to get smaller in number and had turned brown, Iā€™ve woken this morning and thereā€™s no eggs to be seen at all, momma fish was very protective over her eggs but now is happily swimming around tank with daddy fish. Whatā€™s happened to the babies? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

The fish probably ate them. Healthy eggs don't normally turn brown so they might have be infertile. Give them a couple of weeks and they will breed again. Don't worry about trying to keep the young because you can't sell them. If 10 survive then see if your local pet shop wants them but if anymore than 10 survive you will have a hard time getting rid of them.

re: getting a breeding pr, any male and female convict can be put together and will breed. They are like kribensis and mice, they breed like rabbits.
