I have just bought 6 Convict Cichlids from my LFS with a hope that there will be a M+F in there, how can I determine which are M and which are F?

Many thanks

Tim

The females have a patch of orange on the side of its stomach when ready to breed. The males will have a pointed dorsal fin where as the females is more rounded. TBH im not sure you really want to get a pair though you will really struggle to even give the fry away because they bred so easy there every where and no one really wants them. If you want something simmilar something like TBar or HRPs cichlids would be a better choose because they dont pop up as often.

Ouch, You will really struggle. You might be able to sory out a deal with a lfs but they will probably only take about 50 and you will be lucky to get more than 50p each. My lfs will only take them for free and have about 3 30x30cm tank filled with them. I wouldnt bother letting them breed anymore. Maybe have a look into something a little easier to sell. Maybe something a little smaller and less aggressive like Apisto or a smaller acara would work well.
