I'm looking to turn my 30 gallon into a convict tank. Love the way they look and act and was wondering if 30 gallon is big enough. I'm looking to have 4 of them all the same gender of course. I've got 4 main caves and a bunch of plants. Would this work out. I will not get a bigger tank so that's out of the question.

Hmmm, although they would all be the same gender, I would advise against it (especially if they were all males). I would do a pair in that size tank, though you then have the problem of offspring (which depending on your fish keeping beliefs might not be a problem at all). Two females would work, two males may also work, but I imagine they would be constantly fighting which would be stressful and not the best environment for them.

I have a breeding pair of HRP (close relative to convicts) and I would say that 2 is enough in a 30USG tank regardless of sex...

i found one to be enough in a 30 g (especially with a jack dempsey, a blood parrot and a rusty african cichlid)
