I guess my point is that besides the wire screening..you can get Java moss to make a wall if attached to driftwood and then as it fills in the gaps between the wood,you just manually push it flat- and it will stay mostly that way. You might not even need to trim it as new growth kills old growth below it for a status quo thing.
 
I'm having fantastic results now using Taiwan Moss..much faster and denser growth than Java and a darker glossy green too.
