Hey all. Gosh but guppies breed at the speed of light. ive had my tank and fish for 3 months and my female has given birth to 3 batches of the cutest fry. wednesday i saw one small little fishy in my tank. i then caught my female i knew who was expecting. in the breeder tank she was for no more than 2 min and then they started to pop out like theres not going to be a tomorrow. soon enough i saw the strangest thing. she gave birth to conjoined twins - theres a fish with 4 eyes and two tails that its joined at their heads. have any of you seen this happening? unfortunately i had a 2 month old guppy in the breeder tank. and it killed the twins. but it was and interesting sight though...

i doubt they would have lived anyway, however it would have been an interesting photo.

its not uncommon,
my uncles guppys had one that was joined at the spine i think it lived 4 months, he gets them with bent spines also but i tell him to cull these because if they were female giving birth would be to hard and they could die.

How strange, but like others said probably would have died before it reached adulthood anyhow.

Well almost all fish are inbred quite a bit, which is how you get the colors and fin shapes you want in fish. So no doubt this is inbreeding.

Likeley due to inbreeding. Lots of mollies and platy's come from the same stock and breed among their brothers and sisters oddly enough. Enough of this in breeding will make these things more common.

This is not due to inbreeding it's a freak of nature where an egg cell split in half to form 2 fry (zygote) inside the one egg, then they rejoin in a random mannor which resualting is a join anywhere.

I've breed many fish over the years and have never seen it my self even working line breed guppies, but i now people have got this with wild fish which sugests to my self it's just as random to wild stock as cultivated stock.

i doubt they would have lived anyway, however it would have been an interesting photo.

i agree i remember someone had conjoined twins and it was also guppy fry, he also had pictures, anyway he said he came down the next morning and the yolk which the two were joined and feeding on was gone and they were pure white and deads so you did the right thing.

thanx for all the comments. i still find this thing quite intersting. i did take a look at the link of the picture. nice pic. my twin was conjoined at the head. wish i had a picture. have a great day
