I have been using the Tropica plant database to find plants that fall within my tank tolerances etc and wondered whether anyone knows of a database that will allow you to use the same principals to search for fish.

I been using the search engines to find a decent site without luck and all I seem to be able to do is search within a species.

I would like to search by:

ph
hardness
Top/mid/bottom swimmer
difficulty rating
community

etc

If anyone knows of one I would be very grateful!

You can't do a search on those parameters however http://www.fishindex.com/ seems to have pretty much every type of tropical fish.

The only such site that I know of is http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/ which allows you to enter your tank details and then select the fish you want to put in the tank. It then raises any issues between the fish ie will they get on etc and if you are going above your stocking level or not etc.

The stocking level it gives you for your tank does seem a little high though and is not infallable eg. it did not pick up the fact that my betta is likely to attack any guppys if I were to add them.

Thanks, In fact I found www.thinkfish.co.uk earlier and was a bit shocked too at the stocking levels... double what I was intending for my 28 gallon!

Perhaps it was me but i didnt seem to find any functionality that let me do what you said, I could only search by species... I better go and have another go!!!!!

I checked that out and the max stocking level was ridiculous for my tank.

I also don't get how the current stocking level is computed. I used the max lengths given on the site for the fish I chose and came up with 128 cm, but the value shown was 93 cm.

Seems like a good research tool but I wouldn't use it to determine if I am overstocked or not.
