Newbie here: I am currently cycling a 30 gallon long at my mother's house. She currently has 3 tiger barbs, 2 plattys, and an algae eater. I am going to add my adult male guppy to it.

1. Is a male betta compatible? A pair?
2. Are dwarf guauramis compatible? With bettas?
3. Are angelfish compatible? with any of the above?

Using filter and gravel from old 30 gallon hex tank. Had to use all new water, since fish are currently in 5 gallon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The gourami would be fine, but the betta and the angel is a no no!!! the betta might fight with the angel and your tiger barb would be nipping on the betta and the angel so unless you wanna get rid of the tiger barbs then you should be fine with those 3 fish if they have enough space for themselves.. :D

The barbs are nippers, so watch out, regardless of which fish you put in. The betta would be a prime target, and the angel might not be a good idea because of their maximum sizes. If you'll only have a few fish, then it might not be that big of a problem. Just keep tabs on your barbs.

Even your guppy might have problems if you add it because of the male guppy's really huge colorful tail. :(

Echopkb....as others have already said you will have problems with your tigar barbs and any of the fish you mention.

In addition:

Male bettas will not do well with gouramis or angel fish...

Angel fish and gouramis will usually be ok as long as they are similar in size to one another.

Hope this helps

So, I think I understand what everyon is saying. No betta or angelfish with the barbs. Would a guaurami work better?

Correction on the inventory - two tiger barbs, three platties, two algae eaters, and one adult male guppy in about a week.

Keep a close eye on your guppy with the two tigar barbs....a gourami might be ok if it's not too timid

I have a couple dwarf gouramis and they tend to be timid, and get nipped without a fight back. If you stay with a standard gourami like a gold or blue you would be better off....

Male bettas and gouramis might fight . Female bettas aren't as agressive and can be just as colorful. Female usually don't cost as much $$$ :D :p

While I do agree with everyone about the tiger barbs...I do disagree about the gourami's, angel's and betta combo. I have this combo in my 46 gal community tank with no problems what so ever. While my case might be "out of the ordinary", it can work. Just keep an eye on the fish and have a back-up plan ready.
