After going through all different types of fish for weeks, I have decided I really want to have zebra danios and neon tetras in my 12 gallon. I've scratched the idea of putting the frogs in there becuase I keep reading 1 adult needs like 5 gallons itself. I also decided against the glofish because my local petco wants $4.97 apiece?! Ok, so these 2 won't go after each other will they? 5 of each sound good for my 12 gallon tank? Sorry I'm asking so many questions guys I just want to do this right. I was told danios can be used to cycle the tank before adding anything else plus I really love those little guys! Thanks again.

Im not completely sure but I believe they are ok... I checked 2 sites which normally are pretty good for me and to my surprise neither listed the other as compatible.. MAYBE because of the zebra danios speedy attitude, im not sure, or they may be wrong. I am like you and have fell inlove with these wild beautiful guys, both regular and albino look great in my new tank and make it look full.

Hope it helps,, try googling one or the other and check compatabilities on them. somebody else may be able to help but i believe most people arent online this late (it isnt late here for me, im 16 so im on summer vacation and its only 1:00 but most people seem to be gone by this point...

I think the compatibility is fine. Neons are mid level dweller while danios are upper dwellers. The problem that I see is that danios are very fast swimming fish and I'm concerned that there might not be enough room for the danios to swim and live happily. There are other top dwellers like guppies (which stay small) or endlers (also stay small) that might be a better option for the size of tank that you have. Also you want to try the fishless cycling if you can it's much more humane to the fish :) I hope this helps!

Danios would be better off in a bigger tank as they are so active. Neons will be fine but make sure your tank has had a chance to mature as they are very sensitive and not very hardy.

I agree with Stang1 i'm afraid. Danios are naturally very active fish and really need more space than a 12 gallon can give. They will never flourish in such a small tank. The Neons would be fine but as I think I mentioned to you before, are very flakey and seem to die at the drop of a hat, especially in a new tank. I certainly wouldn't cycle the tank with them but I assume you have fishless cycled or already have other fish in there. I'm not saying not to get them but just make sure they come from a reputable LFS and keep a close eye on water conditions in the early stages. Don't be surprised either if you suffer a few deaths, I don't know anyone who hasn't with neons.

:good:

Compatibility isn't an issue but I will also agree on the tank size for the danios. I even mentioned it in this thread that you did earlier. Danios just need more swimming room.

danios arent top dwellers, they are all round dwellers, mine spent most of their time in the middle.
