Is injecting co2 into an overstocked tank a good idea?

Overstocking=less O2+CO2=even less O2 doesnt it?

Or is this different in heavily planted tanks because of the O2 the plants give off?
I have a full FE CO2 set up that hasnt been turned on yet.
Well iv turned it on once just to make sure it worked and I dunno if I just turned it on too high or what but the fish seem to gasp almost instantly. I only put it on at 1 bubble per second.
I thought maybe this happened because I am abit overstocked?
As u can see from my sig, I have alot of plants but next wednesday I have another 30 plants coming some of which will be dependent on CO2.

Any help or advice appreciated

CO[sub]2[/sub] and O[sub]2[/sub] are not dependent of each other, it is possible to have high levels of CO[sub]2[/sub] and O[sub]2[/sub]. If you have say 30 fish in a tank there is an equilibrium point of Oxygen, if you add Carbon Dioxide this value of oxygen does not change.

Really thats goods news. I thought more co2 meant less O2.

Thing is tho, to achieve more O2 means more suface agitation, and more suface agitation means more co2 deplition.

How do you get the right balance?

You only need a little surface disturbance, people get too hung up on gaseous exchange, you'll just have to slowly increase your CO2 dosing until you achieve 30Mg/L, but remember, as soon as you adjust your gaseous exchange, your CO2 levels will change too.

Great thanx for the advice
