Thinking of setting up a Co2 system for my 35 litre tank. Just wondered if anyone could advise me on a suitable kit to use on it? Already dosing flourish excel and tpn+ but can see the excel getting expensive with time and just wondered if there was a suitable pressurised system that would be more cost effective? :/

Please bare in mind i'm as tight as a ducks ar...

If not then i will have to carry on witht he excel.

Thanks very much.

Excel on a 35 ltr should be costing that much! A 500ml bottle should be lasting 5-6 months. What lighting do you have over the tank?

It's not costing that much at the moment, but i can tell already that i will be needing to be upping the dosage eventually.

Lighting is a 8w T5 (unsure of age, i inherited it) which is running for 8 hours a day.

i think pressurised for 35l is a bit overkrill (ha)

if you're worried, just up the aeration, there is enough C02 in the air for entire lakes normally isnt there? and they dont have aerators, they have surface diffusion only

Why would it be overkill?

The 35 has been broken down now and has been redistributed in a 55 litre as a shrimp tank.

TBH mate, even upping the dosage for a very heavily stocked tank wouldn't really cost much more than your paying now.

The 500ml bottle dosing 3ml per day should be lasting roughly 5 months, you wouldn't really be dosing on a 35litre much more than this so really max it should cost per year is 2x 500ml bottles @ around £10.... total £20 roughly.

The only reason i would use direct co2 is if you think the carbon isn't sufficient for your current or planned plants.

Fluval do one for smaller tanks.

It will probably work out a lot more in the long run for refills, even the 88g version wont last to long on a 35l tank... not to mention a lot of the small pressurised systems like this are known to be very inaccurate and unstable which can cause even more problems.

Stick with the easy carbo mate... will be a lot cheaper in the long run :good:

3ml a day in a 35 my god overdose! I dose over the odds in my 35 with 1.5ml a day

Yep i agree, was worked out on Ians estimate on the above post just to roughly work out the minimum time really the 500 ml bottle should last ;)..... although, ive dosed 3-4ml on a 45l tank previously and never had any adverse effect on fish, shrimp or plants... worked wonders infact, weather all the carbon was used is another thing lol.

I use 1.5ml in my 35 and 2.5ml in my 60 lol, got some GDA but might up it to clear it g think
