I have just bought 2 nutrafin fermentation CO2 units for my 160l tank and having not used CO2 before I was wondering whether or not it is necessary to run an air pump at night to reduce the CO2 levels when the plants respire and make CO2 but do not use any in photosynthesis. I have looked at various places on the internet and opinion seems to vary so I was wondering if you guys with expereince of using CO2 had any advice on this?

Also would the use of an air pump overnight cause problematic pH shifts due to reduced levels of dissolved carbonic acid, or would there be sufficient buffering in the water (alkalinity = approx 150ppm) to prevent this?

Any thoughts welcome! :)
