If you have two in the same tank, you will get one male and one female...the female, being the dominant one, becomes much larger than the male..so in a sense, you have a mated pair

Indeed, but this only happens if they are juvies together - it will not happen after they are adults.

So you buy two small juvies and one turns into the female and the other is male - the larger is the female
