not to sure if my clown loach is ill since getting him 3wks ago he hides in a small tunnel and has come out about 3 times now when i look in the tunnel he appears to be laying down inside the tunnel but when he notices me he gets up and hides in the other end of the tunnel where i cant see him is this normal for a clown loach???

Sounds fairly normal, CL's regularly lie on their side, many an owner have had the same scare you've had. They can take a while to settle into a new tank but should eventually become pretty active fish.

I have a friend who bought 3 about 3 months ago and they still hide a lot but they are fine. :)

Don't worry! It's normal! Matter of fact you should be happy your clown loach does that. It's just something they do. I have 2 loaches and both go into a little tunnel and lay there for about 30 minutes and always come out to eat dinner. Usually, when you see your loach swimming around constantly, they get tired and I guess, "go home" one would say. They lay on their side to rest. It's normal for their species.
