hi my tank has recently went cloudy and i dont know why? all stats are fine im thinking maybe my internal filter is not strong enough? its an interpet p4 i was told by my lfs that this would be fine for my 240 liter but it dont seem to be clearing my tank so do u think if i get another smaller filter and put at the opposite end of the original filter it will clear up?

interper pf4 is up to 180L max, so this would be a probem. youve got at least 60L over needing additional filtering :)

no probs. the interpet bio250 is an internal interpet rated for 250-400ltr tanks :) though from other peoples comments, the eheim aquaballs are highly recommended, the 2208 should take you up to the minimum filtering fr your tank

hello there. what media do you have in the filter, if you have carbon, then this can break down after a while and reliese all those little nasties back into your tank, the same as cleanwater etc.

I would also suggest you do a regular 15% water change every other day untill the water has become clear again.

thanks ill look into getting those filters see whats cheapest lol and brewyn i have taken the carbon out and will do those water changes thanks for your advice also

hiya
has the water got a green tint to it ?? if it has then its going to be an algea bloom
if its a milky white colour then it could be a bacterial bloom.
if its an algea bloom then you could try a total black out for a couple of days ( think its 3) with no looking feeding or peeking into the tank.
i did once have an algea bloom in my 4 foot tank & no amount of water changes would solve it, in the end i got a uv sterlizer & that got rid of it. my algea bloom also came on more or less over night :D :D
hth :D :D

I have sort of the same problem in my tank. I think I may have found th eproblem though. Today I pulled all of plants out (fake) and found gobs of food matter that had accumulated at he bases of each that I wasn't able to get to during my cleanings. Tomorrow I start doing a really good vaccuming to try and solve problem. From the pics, it looks like an algae bloom. As trace1 said, a total blackout can be done in 3 days and that should take care of it.

the pics look are more murky browny colour than anything.

bacterial bloom is easily controlled by a 100% water change :) - i got one when my filter failed and it would happen when i never saw the tank for 3 days :(

i was also notice a distinct odd colouring to my gravel tank last week and so this weekend, spent 4 hours with my hands in water. thankfully i have a community tank with no incredibly sensitive fish - put them in a pile of insectariums i have and started gravel cleaning, mixing clean water, gravel cleaning etc then scooping out the gravel and dunking it in a sieve in the siphoned clean-ish water i got at the top of the tank.

put it all back together, some kettle water to bring temp up, gave the heater an hour whilst adding some aq salt etc to the water and then re-acclimitised my fishes and replaced them. im gob-macked at the difference in the water quality and clarity (well the quality difference being the clarity)
