Hi all,

I recently purchased a Cleartides "2000 LPH" overflow from eBay. It was brand new. I'd had troubles with the tank filling past the max water limit from my Hailea HX4500 which is rated at 2500 LPH @ zero head pressure. At 1.2m it should be pumping 1800 LPH... well inside the 2000 LPH capacity.. or so I thought.

I'd been using a blow off valve setup but the pump was noisey due to back pressure and so thought "sod it"... and I purchased a new pump that is suitable for the job. It arrived this morning. Its a Hailea HX6530, rated at 1750 LPH and pumps around 1100 LPH @ 1.2m head height. So, I hooked it up and was still getting noise, which I think is caused by the 15mm pipework being insufficient to handle the flow of water. I decided to hook up the hose from the gravel cleaner, as it has a bigger gauge than the pipework.

I turned the pump on.... The noise was greatly reduced but.... and yes there is always a sodding but..... The tank starts filling up.... and keeps filling up. My Cleartides 2000 LPH overflow is not coming anywhere near close to draining 2000 LPH from my display tank!!?? WTF!!??

Has anyone else got one of these? Have they experienced the same issue or is this an isolated event?

I've contacted the vendor who is getting in touch with Cleartides regarding the problem.

I was rather suspicious that every other product on the Cleartides website has a flow rating or recommended pump to use in conjuction with the product... but not the overflow box. After spending £50 on the overflow box and £45 on pumps... I still don't have a fully functioning overflow. :grr:

I am PROPER pissed off!!!! :shout:

Today, after god knows how many weeks - maybe 8 or more since I originally purchased the first unit, my new Cleartides overflow box arrived.

And take a look at what happened when I connected it up.

There is also a problem with the air syphon valve at the top, because it hasnt been cut flush with the internal surface of the chamber.

When the unit is primed, there is a huge air bubble that I cannot remove from inside the chamber, which runs the risk of the syphon being broken.

I now have two cleartides overflow boxes, neither of which I can use due to incorrect manufacturing. To say I am pissed off is an understatement. I've emailed them again and am awaiting a response. The vendor I bought it from has been very good and helped by contacting cleartides too and keeping me abreast of all developments. I cannot fault them at all.

That's the 2nd Cleartides overflow that would have flooded my room had I not noticed the faults!

Wow, note to self... Dont use or reccomend cleartides overflows

Most likely Aquatics-Online. They sold the CT overflow boxes but have temporarily withdrawn them due to the fact that the flow rates could not determined.

Aquatics-Online are a very good company and highly customer orientated. They are also well priced too, so I would highly recommend them. I purchased my unit through First Stop Aquatics. Lee there has been brilliant throughout all of this.
