ok i've been a bit naughty through being very busy at work etc and my rocks have started to get a bit manky.

do i clean them in slightly bleached water and scub em?

IMO the safest thing to do would be to scrub them with a stiff brush using tank or dechlorinated water. I would try that first before moving on to bleach or any chemicals. If you decide to use bleach, a very weak solution is all that you should need to use.

that was my thinking really. i've tried with a fish only dish pan brush but to no avail! i think i may give it another go this evening and then work out a good plan of action

i think i may look a bit strange going to a petrol station to spray rocks :p

i've got a team of cleaning utensils purely for the fish and i'm using a range of them now to get the stuff off

cheers peeps

am I the only one that thinks outside the box?

turn the rock over so the manky side is on the substrate

If you're prepared to leave them out of the tank for a few days you can put them out in the sun to dry out.

The "mank"/algae will die and you can then scrub off as much as you can with the rocks still dry (try using fine sandpaper if you are having trouble) and then revert to water to try and clear off the remainder.

I did this with the rocks in one of my tanks and it worked great.
