i appear to have a vewry small slam in my lvie rock in my newly set up nano. it opens and closes and even eats flake!? are clams common things on live rock? thanks in advance summat fishy :)

ps: nano journal updates soon!

Sure..you can pick up a clam as a hitchhiker. Digital cam would be nice. SH

Bivalves are often found on the LR, though of the long term survival I am unsure.

well my digital camera is a decent one, but i cant seem to get it to focus becasue the light is to bright to take the picture, and when it is off its too dark, and the flash refelcts on the tank! any ideas people? il describe it instead? its a small little thing not bigger than a pea! but it flutters around everywhere and eats ground flake. not much colour too it and it seems to be part of the live rock? how do they bed themselves in like this? thanks in advance summat fishy :)

Azooxanthellate bivalves have a very small rate of survival in aquarist's tanks. Don't get too attached.

As for how it attached itself, many bivalves are actually capable of inserting themselves into solid rock, either through physical (drilling) or chemical (acid) means. Yours is probably just stuck to the rock via byssus threads, little sticky things.
