Hi, I'am getting a 50gal (4ft) tank with all accsesories from my lfs that i work at . It is one that they used to sell fish in but have new ones come in so it buying it off them . I was thinking about putting the following fish in Mbunbas, Yellow labs, Cobalt blue, peackocks, kennyi, tropheos.
Would they be ok?

Oscar,

It all depends!!!!

What are the dimensions of the 50 gallon?? Is it 36x18 or 48x13?? This is a big difference when stocking the tank!!

As for the fish doing alright together, here is my opinion:

Aulonocara sp. (peacocks) In a word.....NO!! These are a peaceful species and would not fair well with the others.

Mbunbas - Do you mean Mbuna?? If so all the other fish you listed falls in that catagory.

Yellow Labs or Labidochromis caeruleus are the most peaceful of the fish listed (next to the peacocks)

Cobalt blues or Maylandia callainos is next in aggression

Kennyi or Maylandia lombardoi is the most aggressive of the group.

tropheos - Do you mean Tropheus as in T morrii?/ If so IMO you should NOT place these in with these other fish. These really need to be kept in groups of at least 10, 15-20 being even better. The males of this species are very aggressive to the females and I don't feel they would get on well in a mixed tank. They really should be kept in a species only tank. They also require very good water conditions as they are sometimes prone to bloat!!

In conclusion, the kennyi and yellow labs would do fine together, but they may cross breed.

The tank is 48inchs long. I was thinking of breeding convicts in there or having big cichlids in there not sure yet but im getting the tank at the end of the week. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
As u can tell im really excited about it. Im still thinking tho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Cant wait.

Also would i be able to put convicts in with the Malawi fish????????????????
thanx :D

would watch out with the convicts. they are really cool fish, but unless you have a way to get rid of the fry, you could wind up with many tanks full of convicts! they breed like water bunnies. imo, convicts are great with c/sa cichlids. the mbuna will eat the fry and the large amounts of protein are not good for mbuna. or any of the africans for that matter.

Like semper fi mentioned, I wouldn't put cons in with Africans. The africans might end up killing them. They are too quick for the New World cichlids.

If they don't end up dead, they will make life miserable in that tank because of their aggressive brood protection and I don't see the Africans backing down much so you'll have a full out war in there, imo.
