Initially I was going to keep three dwarf gouramis in my 125l aquarium. But after reading about just how problematic they can be + that stickied gourami faq sheet it's becoming apparent that Dwarf gouramis may not be best suited.

Which has left me with a couple of questions...

Which are the pure breeds of gourami? And by that I mean not interbred to create a variety of colour as it seems this lowers there inherent resistance/hardiness.

In your experience what breed has the least aggressive males? I'm asking because during my time here I have read a number of threads where owners state that the male Dwarf gouramis have harassed the females to death. And in all cases the the male female ratio has been 1/2

I cant say for sure, as I only have one, but my honey gourami shows no agression to my other fish at all, not like my dwarf before he died, who would chase them all. I think honeys are meant to be less agressive in general, and I heard towards females too.

I have 2 honey Gourami's in one of my tanks and they also show no agression towards other fish. I couldn't want an easier fish to look after.

I also have a single Golden Gourami in my other tank, I've never had problems with him either!

snakeskin gouramis are supposed to be pretty peaceful. they get about 8 inches and they're a pure breed

Thanks guys

I am leaning towards honey gourami has anyone here kept 2/1 females to male?

From what my lfs said, females and males look the same when younger. They cant sex them easily so you might just have to get 2 and wait and see.

If you ended up with 2 males coz of that would they fight when they grew up? I'm planning to get 2 Honeys!
