Cheaper Catfish Option

Is there a catfish that is viable in a malawi tank, other than the Syno? I'm not really interested in spending $70 on three Synos, when they won't be the featured fish in the tank. I was debating just buying a few cheaper dwarf cats from the LFS, or getting a rainbow shark. Any thoughts?

Save your cash and dont waste filtration on one. Ive got a bn plec in with mine - but rarely if ever see him
