Hi folks,

Have everything I need to make the changeover to sand from my gaudy blue gravel base I have in place at the moment. However I have a few questions....

1. How deep should my layer of sand be? (only using artificial plants)

2. What shall I do with the media etc whilst I make the changeover? There is no way of keeping it running as it is all built into the tank lid etc, can I put the charcoal and stuff into a bucket of tank water whilst I do the swap over?

3. Whilst the tank is empty of fish and water - would you recommend giving it a good clean out - or just leave it - I don't want to go back into a cycle as the water stats are currently perfect.

Look forward to hearing your replies as want to get on with this ASAP )

Thanks,

Lesley xxx

Sand is all washed etc ready to go...

Read this topic. I realize it's about moving house, but it's basically the same process. (aside from the transportation part.) And yes media goes in a bucket of tank water. As far as depth, I wouldn't reccomend anything over 2.5 inches unless you have something to constantly churn the sand i.e. malaysian trumpet snails. Because gas pockets can build up underneath it. Good luck and make sure you keep your fish somewhere dark to avoid stress.

Be careful cleaning the glass. Sand in your sponge or mitt can scratch the glass. :alien:
