I have an 8 gallon tank and want to get something roomier (a 15 Gallon), I have nowhere else to put it to cycle. Do you think I could do the following?

1. Put half gravel required into new tank
2. Move the plants and wood, rocks out of the small tank
3. Half fill the new tank and put a heater in to get it up to 25 degrees
4. Bag my fish 10 in all
5. move my old gravel into new tank
6. Put my old filter into new tank as it is rated to 20 Gallons
Put the old tank water in with the new to fill the tank up in situ
7. Introduce the fish

Is this a bad plan, It should have all the right bacteria in the old tank so i am assuming it should go ok?

Has anyone done anything like this?

it'll be fine. :) as long as you have the old filter and old gravel in the new tank, you shouldn't have any problems. except for catching the fish, that's always tricky. :D

when i did something similar I put a bit of hot water in the new tank so it didnt take so long to heat up, thus minismising the amount of time the fish spent in their temporary accommodation. :D good luck, Im sure your fishes will appreciate it!

I hope so, I guess its not that much different than a 50% water change really. I will monitor it all closely.
