Can you use Seachem Flourish and Flourish Excel together or are they basically the same? :look:

I have been using standard Flourish for a while, but note Flourish Excel claims to remove hair algae :good:

Flourish is a trace fertilizer which contains iron, calcium, magnesium, boron, cobalt.. etc etc etc. lots of trace elements that plants use and are hard to find elsewhere.

Flourish Excel is an organic carbon supplement. they are two totally different things. Also flourish excel has a benefit when used with flourish as it has "iron reducing properties which promote the ferrous state of iron, which is more easily utilized by plants".

I recommend them both.

Yeah, no problem dosing both together.

Have a look at this dosing regime on Seachem's site. Flourish dosing chart:

However, that's just an example. You should dose according to your plants needs, depending on plant density, type, light and co2 etc.

On the hair algae front, I've found that Excel works excellently against BBA. Turn off your filter to restrict water flow, then apply Excel directly onto the affected areas with a syringe. After ten minutes, once the excel has had a time to do its stuff, switch the filter back on. I used 5ml on a large BBA-covered Amazon Sword leaf, and the algae was gone in two days.

Just remember that Excel is not primarily an Algaecide, so make sure you don't end up OD-ing too much.

Hope this helps,

Rob.
