I have recently rehomed a few tropical fish from different people and I am now trying to identify them all. I had 4 blue neon tetras so I over time I have increased the number upto 10. However, I have noticed the orginal 4 are not the average neon tetras. They have a neon blue stripe through the middle and are approx 2" long. I thought they were cardinals to start with, but they have no red on them. They are a couple of years old so do they lose their colour? They happily swim with the neon tetras, who definately have red on them!

Tried to get a pic, but they are so fast they just blur. I googled blue tetras, but they dont look the same.

Not the best pic sorry

green neon tetra? http://www-personal.umich.edu/~wfink/neonpic.html

Mine are blue too. But if you look down on them at an angle, mine go greeny blue.

Definitely 'green' neons Paracheirodon simulans. Mine are blue too; though I suppose it's a greeny sort of blue. I have no idea why they're called green!
I think 'false neon' is a better common name for them :)
