I had to pour some boiling water over a piece of driftwood, which was too big to stick in a pot.
So i added some water conditioner into my jug/kettel and boiled it then poured it over the wood. Is it ok to drink water that has been conditioned? im guessing yes. Just wanna know 4sure.

Thanks

 I wouldn't go out of my way to do so personally, but the amount of fish water I've swallowed over time when doing water changes with no ill effects tells me it's probably ok.

Theres actually no reason to add conditioner to boiled water as the boiling process removes the chlorine/chloramine, there is also no need to condition water for pouring over or soaking driftwood in as by the time the wood goes into the tank the chlorine/chloramine will be long since dispersed.

In fact there is no need to boil or soak driftwood either unless you have a serious grievance about having tannins in the water, i never soak any of my pieces, just a quick scrub with a stiff brush to remove any loose bits and dirt and straight into the tanks.

The only reason for pouring boiling water onto the wood was because it was already in my tank to start with and started to form a white cloudy (cotton candy looking..) fungus. One member sugested boiling the wood to kill off anything. so... this afternoon i tried it.

I even boiled all my rocks and ornaments. im too paranoid. The tanks currently cycling, so theres no fish to worry about.

Sounds like excess waste it settling on the wood to cause the fungus. How are you cycling? I found in the past overfeeding can cause that white fungus. Obviously with no fish in the tank it's a different matter. Thankfully I haven't seen that fungus in quite some time. :D

The white fungus is a common reaction when new wood is first introduced, it is seemingly harmless and disapeers within a week or two of being submerged.

Aw man, it goes away in a week or 2....

And i spent hours this afternoon... changin 150 Litres of water, boiled 7 rocks, 2 ornaments a 3' piece of driftwood... haha damn.

I soaked the wood for a week before i added it to the tank, and there was no fungus while soaking. tank is also brand new.

i 4get what the topic of this post was haha

By the way, where does drinking the water come into this lol?

I'm all for saving water, but if you boiled and treated a bit too much, just water your plants with it or something.

Or did you condition it in the kettle and now want to know if you can still use the kettle?

Yeah i put condtioner in the kettle..

I rinsed it with fresh water and reboiled it before drinking any hahah

well, it depends on what kind of conditioner you have. on the side of most conditioners, it says not for human consumption or something similar. there are some conditioners that restaurants use that say safe for humans or something like that. i got a gallon of this stuff because my dad uses it to keep his bass in the pond alive. its a better deal than most of the conditioners we buy in the fish shops. it cost him around 60 bucks
