I've found some plant food I acquired awhile back, and I was wondering if it would cause my water quality to drop if I put it in while the water quality in my tank was already a little poor

wait and get A LOT of plants and then add the fert. first get your water happy

Good advice above...what kind of fert, and in what way is your water quality poor to begin with?

The fert is some random aquarium plant food. The nitrites and nitrates are raised above normal and a massive ammonia spike occurred recently but that's been lowered some

I wouldn't add ANYTHING until your water params are 0, 0, and some trAtes...

Correct.....0 AMM, 0 ITES....and some ATES
