Can I Keep A Betta And What In A 5.5 Gallon

I was thinking of getting a 5.5 Top Fin® aquarium, Can he survive with some ghost shrimp and maybe another bottom feeder?

You bet he can. He will be far better off with tank mates than in a lonely one fish setting. Do you have a fully cycled filter yet? If not, try doing a fishless cycle before buying that betta. I have a link to fishless cycling in my signature area.

I like Heterandria formosa and similar fish for a tiny tank, but they are seldom available in a fish shop. That probably leaves you with no better options than shrimp and similar small items.
