My tap water is 7.6ph and contains natural buffers. I've tried rainwater and chemicals, but the buffers make short work of the softer water making it alkaline. Can I still keep a German Blue Ram or two? Not really interested in breeding them. Thank you.

See if you can get some locally bred. I have a guy in my area who's bred them at 7.8, and with a PH of 7.6, when I finally get around to purchasing my pair, I'm getting them from him!

If you want them to have very short lives, then you can.

And if I keep the water quality extremely good (which I do :fun: ) do you think that they'd still die?
Tried it twice with a pair, having ph of 7.4 - 7.6 and gh = 8 (140ppm) , kh = 10 (217 ppm) and they died in less than three months both times.

also they need the water to be very arm (around 30C), which was too warm for the other community fish. trying my luck now with apistos

No, they just wont last, very low GH and pH of 5-6 is the sweet spot as well as the higher temperatures, it's the only way to have long term success with them.

O.K. Thanks everybody for the advice. I guess I will keep trying to somehow get my ph down to acceptable range and try other fish in the meanwhile.

Na bull #105### I have the same thing and I've had my first for almost 6 months they even layed eggs.

The life span of a Blue Ram is 4-5 years, pretty difficult to draw any significant conclusions after just 6 months.

Where did you get 4 - 5 years from? There are articles all over the web saying rams can live and thrive in water with high ph levels and mid hard water . Cleam water is the key. And you no this

There are articles all over the web that claim Justin Bieber is a good singer, it doesn't make them right :good:

Probably one of the most reliable and accurate resources: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/rams.htm
