I'm a newbie and need to treat a fish of mine with an internal parasite med?

There are so many different types I was wondering if someone could recommend one that I could get at my LFS

Thanks

Just want to make sure you have a correct diagnosis as from what I understand internal parasites are extremely rare and over-diagnosed all the time. If I may take a quote from a post by nmonk, a very well respected man here on the website and in the hobby with much education in the field...
"Internal parasites" is usually a made-up thing by aquarists that roughly translates as "I don't know what the problem is, but rather than blame poor aquarium conditions or the wrong diet, I'm going to blame some mythical internal parasites that snuck in during the night and attacked my fish". There's almost a 1:1 relationship between the aquarists who blame "internal parasites" for any unexplained deaths and the aquarists who do stupid things like overstock tanks, use inadequate filtration, mix fish from different water chemistry environments, or use feeder fish. On the other hand, aquarists who keep their fish properly almost never seem to have to blame "internal parasites" but explain deaths by acknowledging problems with the wrong diet, wrong water chemistry, etc.

While it is possible for fish to pick up internal parasites in the wild, under aquarium conditions it is very rare because the intermediate hosts (things like [specific species of] snails or water birds, depending on the parasite life cycle) is missing. Wild fish are most at risk, but things farmed outdoors, like goldfish and koi, are also at risk. Your standard community tropicals are not."

I hope the best for your fish and your treatment but felt I should let you know how rare internal parasites are in aquaria.

Is it possible to get this med somehow outside of the UK?

Flubeno.co.uk do post worldwide but it is upto the purchaser to determine if the product is legal in their country.
given how Australia regulate other matters I heartily suggest you find out if it is legal and if you can import it.

good point

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I know I'm new to this, but I have had a few fish die unexpectedly, with no symptoms showing no signs whatsoever. The water stats have been fine. When I have come on here for help, given the outline as to what has happened I have been told that it's probably internal parasites, as platies can suffer with them. I have never had medication to help them, so I went out and got some.

I put Sterazin in my tank on saturday. My platy is still flicking. She's a yellow/orange platy so difficult to see whitespot or velvet. I was watching her for a long time yesterday and I think her tail looks a little more orangy than normal and her dorsal fin has more orange on than normal.

Not sure if I've looked at her for too long, could this be velvet??

If it is how should I treat it? I have some Protozin but I've already put some Sterazin in on Sat.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I would really like to save this one.
