Hi folks

Anyone know if a particular type of tank can affect ph?

Reason I ask is I started off with a 30 litre biorb. Even though my tap water is ph 7, the ph in the biorb often dropped down to around 5.5/6, meaning I needed to use water changes and a small amount of bicarb to bring things back to normal.

Few months ago I got a juwel 260 (quite a leap, I know) and the ph has never altered significantly at all.

Recently I re-started the biorb and immediately the ph dropped to around 5.5/6.

Could it be the type of tank? All the other conditions are the same, including where in the rooms the tanks are kept and the natural light they receive (minimal).

Not a biggie as I know how to deal with the biorb (I think) but just wondering all the same.

Thanks

Ben

Restarted the biorb with no fish in?

The buffering capability of 260 litres of water compared with 30 litres in the biorb will mean that the natural drop in pH due to excretion/respiration will be less noticeable due to the comparatively huge amount of water in the Juwel.
