Hi, i have a 4 US gallon tank, and i wondered whether i could keep some bumblebees in there?
They are such nice fish, and id like to get something with lots of character...
I have a heater, and i can get a hagen elite mini filter....
Just wanted to know about adding salt etc.
Now would i need to get a hydrometer, or can adding general ammouts (say a tablespoon per 5g) work too???
Would i need any other special equipment, or decor??
How much salt would i need to add??
Also, what about cycleing?

Thanks, Mikey

I dont know how many US gallons that is, but the bare minium is 5 US gallons, but that is a strectch, they will be more comfortable in at least 10 US gallons. Adding general amounts won't work, you most certainly need a hydrometer. They need a SG of no higher than 1.005. 1.002-1.005 is fine, you don't have to have it alwqays set to 1.005. You don't need any special equiptment, just make sure the current equiptment is OK for use in SW, although 1.005 is much closer to FW than SW. You should cylce with brackish water if possible, you won't run into any problems that may occur if you were to cycle with FW than gradually raise the SG.

Well its 4 US gallons, so its under the minium.
I think ill get a dwarf puffer, unless there is anything else you could surrgest?

Thanks, Mikey

Oooops, that you said 4 UK gallons

I wouldn't do a DP in 4 gallons, too smal for such an active fish and too unstable for a fairly sensitive puffer. There's not much that can do in a tank that small, perhaps someone in the Chit Chat section would have some suggestions?

use the 4 gallon for breeding the pond snails you will feed to the puffer you eventually put in a larger tank.

maybe a betta? they are pretty, you could even divid it into 2 gallons a side and get 2 bettas :)

im sure a dp would be fine in a 4 gallon.. 5 gallon is minimum for one fish, as long as it is planted and has lots to explore a 4 gallon would be fine

its not the tank you have to worry about, its getting the puffer to eat

good luck with whatever you do.

Yeh i am into bettas, and have one ATM and im getting a couple more, id just like something abit differant.
I though that the min for DPs was about 2.5-3g, and i thought that a 4G would be ok...

Thanks, MIkey

The bigger issue with such a small tank is that water quality is more difficult to maintain than in a larger tank.

i also think this are great little fish.
i have read that they will do better in slightly brackish water
i have also read that thye can be hard to feed and some will only take live food
