My tank is under attack by brown algae. I am not worried for the fish sake because I believe it is not harmful to them, but it is also not good to look at and makes me have to clean the surface of the tank more often. This stuff has started to form on the substrate, as well as, the my live plates and equipment. What do I do to rid this algae from the tank. Once again this is not an emergency, just a annoyance.

Is this a fairly new set up tank? If so, brown algae is very common on newly set up tanks, it usually lasts a few weeks and the only thing to do is what you are already doing and just wipe it off, it is unsightly but is not harmful to your fish, so nothing to worry about. It will eventually die back.

How long do you have the tank lights on for? Try to keep it under 8 hours as this will help a little.
