Help!! I am 8 weeks into a new tank (already have another tank),My white gravel keeps getting Brown Algae on it.Even if i clean it it still comes back after a few days and on tank ornaments.Any advice please?
Hi. I am going through this myself with my tank which has been running just over two months. I have also researched this and would concur with fluttermoth re diatoms. It usually seems to go by itself eventually although I am sure water changes will help.
I had the same with my tank, it does die down.
CUC should also take care of some of it, I also have a Goby and a sand shifting star which help to turn the gravel over.
regular deep cleaning of gravel along with regular water changes will always help and of course make sure there is no sunlight hitting the tank too oh yeah and overfeeding can also contribute to algae
Yes, agree with the others, good ideas, and always keep tweeking the balances to look for improvements.. cut your light timers back a bit, shortening your photoperiods and try to find plants you can add that will stay alive and grow. And of course totally agree that good gravel-cleans with water changes is a major help with diatoms.
