I've seen some small ones but heard they don't grow much bigger where as the common pleco grows really big. If this is correct what is the average size a bristle nose can grow and are they ok in cold water? My local shop sells them as cold water but I've read there tropical. Any help is much appritiated :)

I have a bristle nose and a common pleco. In different tanks. The bristle nose, depending on what kind of BN you have can range from 3" to 6" . Mine is about max. He is nice. My common pleco can reach 24". Mine is about 6" now. They can live is cold water, they just have to be climatize to the water.

10cm max. Minimum temp is around 22 degrees celsius and max is around 28.

They generally grow to 4-5 inches, which is still rather large, but not nearly as big as a common. Their minimum tank size is 20 Gal, (You can keep 1 in 20 gal comfortable, 2-3 in a 30 if they're all females and have enough bog wood and hiding places)
BNP's are very accepting of a wide range of temperatures, though it isn't recommended that they be in temperatures lower than 60-65, I'm not sure that's cold water but it isn't exactly tropical. I wouldn't keep mine at that temperature, personally.
I keep mine in a tropical tank of about 76-78 and she does fine.

I once kept a pit bull plec with my fancy goldfish.
I had to remove him from the tank in the end due to sucking on the goldfish slime coat.

Cheers for the responses guys. My temperature is at a steady 20c all the time so would that be a tad to cold? Or is there anything else I could put in I.e what varieties of snail or shrimp that would be ok in a coldwater tank?
