I'm really looking forward to breeding my bettas but my females are tiny!
How big should they be before i can breed them?? My largest female is like 1/4 of the size of my male... not including his fins!
Thanks alot.

she may be too young, do you know how old she is? i believe the feamle should at least be the size of hte male or close to it. You might be able to get away if she's half the size of him, but 1/4 seems like he'll just kill her :p

I asked the guy at the store and they've had them for a month.
I cant wait to take pictures of them! They're real cute!

i love feamles, they are adorable. Does the lfs guy know how old they were when they took them in? i mean they could be 3 months old when they came in, or 6 months, or 9 months..you never know  what pair are you breeding? do you have pics of the parents?

I don't have a pic of the female yet. I have only one male now, here is his pic

I don't know how old they were when they got them?:dunno:
They're only about and inch w/ their fins

he's a very pretty betta, what does the feamle look like?

i hope you've done your poroper resaerch on betta breedin :flex: it's tough work! as for hte female, maybe you could fatten her up a bit (you have to conditon them both anyways). But my feamles are always about half to 3/4 the size of the male when i breed.

Thats good,
now I have lots of time to prepare them for breeding. I am feeding my male bloodworms and betta max flakes, and my females are just getting flakes so far.
The females dont have much color to them, their bodies are plain... sorta like a wild betta. Their tails are tinted, one blue and one red.
I swear... the smaller one keeps changing patterns on her side. From verticle to horizontal going stripes on her body...??

horizontal stripes of the feamle = stress

vertical stripes = readiness to breed

normally teh feamle will display vertical stripes when she has a desire to breed, and when you see horizontal stripes, its a sign that she's stressed.

I would condiiton the feamle very well either as the size of your spawn will depend on the number of eggs that she releases. As for hte male, he also needs to be conditioned very well becuase he'll have to go for days without eating while tending to the eggs. You wouldn't wnat him to get hungry and eat the babies as a snakc right? ;)

Should I put my females in a 2.5 gal tank or a 3.5?
Also should i use a filter?
