hi i have 2 new baby platties i've had them 4 a week now and heard about breeding traps are they necessery??? The babies just hide in the plants and the bigger fish aren't very interested in them. however one was born a day or so after the other one and the first one seems to hide the whole time and the smaller one keeps coming out to the water heater and going to the older one!!!

i would get a net breeder to keep them in because there parents will eat them or any other fish in the tank if they can catch the fast lil buggars

if you only have platties in the tank then you shouldn't need to use a breeder trap.

Once the fry are 48 hours old the adults will stop trying to eat them anyway. :)

well i have-
145 UK Litre tank (31 Gallon)

2 Male Guppies
2 Cory Catfish - 1 Albino, one Bronze
6 Platties(+2 little babies)

As long as there are plenty of plants and not too aggressive tankmates (as I noticed from the list you gave) I wouldn't bother with a breeding trap. They are pretty much useless and can stunt the growth of the fish that are kept in them.

I did use a breeding trap when my platy was pregnant. If you are goin to use one, it would probably be best to use the breeding trap just while the mother is giving to stop her eating the fry. Then move them onto a tank on there own where you can raise. This way worked fine for me. You will have a higher success rate this way, and not so many fry will be eaten.
