Hi,

I got my sajicas pair last Friday. They have already paired up in the shop and are doing things together in my tank. They are now more settled in my tank and have started digging in one of my "caves" (The helmet). I think I saw the breeding tube one the female, but can't be sure as I've only started fishkeeping for a month.

My question is:

Would I slow things down if I start vacuuming the area around the potential spawning site? Quite a bit of poo around there
Should I do anything different apart from feeding them and changing water once a week?
Am I better off getting one of those flower pot people keep talking about for fishes?

Was thinking about getting a pair of Bolivian Ram but I think I'll wait and see what happens with these two first.

Thanks.

Adrian

They will pick their own spot, I wouldnt worry too much, as for tank maintenance carry on as normal just be careful around the site, if they have spawned they will most likely "attack" the syphon.

Well I was nipped by my alpha male tiger barb yesterday while vacuuming the gravel! The sajicas are about 2-3inches and are still painfully shy, though they definitely are settling in fine. Food-wise they can't compete with the barbs and rainbows thought they are catching up. Sinking cichlid pellets on the way!

Once they settle they will be fine trust me, the 2 little ones I was looking after were in with an oscar, they can handle themselves

New to the hobby but my sajicas seems to be very laid back with feeding. Certainly can't be as$ed to compete with the barbs and rainbows, and instead eat the catfish food!. My poor corys are "surviving" on flake crumbs the sajicas produce. Hopefully they won't eat their tankmates instead when and if they spawn!

Try some tetra prima its a crumb food some floats for a while and some sinks quite fast, everyone should get a good feed with that rather than waiting for flake to sink. :good:

You know you are the 4th person who said tetra prima. The LFS said it's a bit big for my rainbows and barbs. I'll get some tomorrow if my hikari microwafer and cichlid sinking pellets mini doesn't arrive by today. I used the hikari micropellets which came free with last months' practical fishkeeping, and had lots of uneaten food falling between gravels. Now that I have sand/fine gravel sinking food should be ok. I'll give it a whirl.

Rainbows LOVE prima, its not too big, its tiny granules, its good for most fish, also rainbows will appreciate some veggie crisps.

Prima is not vegge as far as I know. I haven't got any vegge food yet. Any recommendations?

Adrian

Tetra prima is a granule food, Minxy is on about Tetra Pro vegetable, its vegi crisps

No prima is meaty, tetra do a veggie crisp though which rainbows love, they need plenty of veg in their diets.

Thanks. They haven't had much veg in their diet... yet. Thanks for the link by the way star4. I have seen the Tetra Pro Veg but my nearest LFS don't stock it. I'll get some veg food soon. Is algae wafer ok or is veg flake different?

Adrian

No worries on the link :good: , vegi flake is better for rainbows as far as I know, algae wafer is harder than the flakes as it is designed not to break up easily for pleco's etc to graze on it at their leisure.
