I want to start breeding Livebearers because they are easy, cheap and sell able.
I have myself 2 heated tanks... a 300 liter grow out tank and a 40 liter (divided down the middle)
I want to have these fish...

albino koi swordtails (Very rare and unique)
Moscow blue guppies (I have to selective breed for my female died)
Platties (I want to develop my own strain)
Albino Bristle nose (Easy to sell and a good clean up crew)
Ottos (small and easy)

I was thinking this.

in the first section A I want to put the...

albino koi swordtails
Guppies

and in section B I want to put the

Platties
Ottos

Then in the 300 liter I want to put the trio of albino bristle nose plecos.

Is this a good idea?

I know that the tank may be to big for the fry but I don't mind loosing some fry, I will have the tank bare bottom to help with cleaning.

I have checked with the reputable LFS and they said it may be hard raising the fry is such a large tank but other than that it should be fine.

Where could you come across albino koi swordtails? I'm going to be honest with you, I too would breed them(Kind of need the extra cash) :)

Sorry I live in New Zealand, so here is the link but I mean...http://www.guppy.co.nz/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=215

I should really update my profile.
Will me idea work?

I would think so. Swordtails go with guppies and ottos go with platties. I know nothing about bristle nose plecos though. Thank you for that link by the way.

What I was thinking about doing was to have around 4 floating hatchery in the tank, like this...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-...on-82334707.htm
But I will remove the plastic bars on one side giving the fry allot more room, when the female is heavily pregnant I will move her to one of these hatchery's where ill have some floating plants to help her feel secure. After she has given birth move her back to her own tank. I will leave the fry in this hatchery until they are one month old then ill let them out into the big tank.

But one problem i see with this is that these tanks will be running of their own filtration so I will have different types of water, thus if I added the female striate into the 300 liter I would kill her. So I was thinking when it comes to water changes that to mix half the water from the 300 liter with the fresh new water so the water condition is the same and lets the fish customize to the water. I plan to add another tank where I want to breed Killifish.

So in conclusion: If I mix tank water from the raising tank with the breeding tanks I should just be able to move the fish around with having to acclimatising them.

I can get albino koi swords, moscow blues and bleeding heart platy's

Now you could breed a fer and sell them but prices are difficualt to keep.

I've sold moscow blue's for £25 plus postage

But they will not hold the prices just the same as endlers have.

As i have access to 10 pairs to sell for the spring the price will drop and I'm expecting £10 a pair if I'm lucky

Now that a lot better tham most things but it's a very few people who want them and pay the money. Shops will only want to swap to other goods.

I also have albino BN's breeding here and may have some for sale soon.

The thing is what money i get go's back into feeding and careing for all the fish. I have never made money with selling fish apart from hen i was farming trout

Rearing 50'000 fish a year was enough for 2 people to surive, but that was hard still

I think a 20L for Swordtails is too small. I'm looking at mine in my 20g, and I can't see them in a tank 1/4 that size, with their size and their activity. I'd definitely go for breeding them, just perhaps with more room.

You don't want adult fish, besides the BNs in the 300L, right?

Edit - A Euro is about $1.30, a pound is about $1.90. Approximately.

I bought mine for $3 each at my LFS, but that store tends to be a bit cheaper. PetsMart sells them for $5. It really depends on the store.

They aren't especially easy to find in some places (I've never had trouble, personally), so don't get discouraged if the first place doesn't have them.

I saw the Koi Swordtails at PetSmart. They look great, but I am expecting a livebearer boom shortly as it is, so I am holding off on new fish.

Hi thanks this is what I have decided to do...

300 Liter Tank
This is where I will house my breeding trio of Albino Bristle Nose (aventually I am going to put a divider down the middle and get trios going at the same time) I will House the 4 Swordtails in this tank, when the female is gravid I will catch her with this
http://www.marineandreef.com/shoppro/clean...s_pesttraps.htm
This is where I will have the 6 floating hatcheries where the females will drop their fry and where I will grow them out to around 1-2cm then I will sell them to the LFS

37 Liter Tank Divided
This is where I am going to house my livebearers.
on one half of the tank i will have...
3 platties/3 guppies
and on the other half I will have
3 otos/3 mollies

When I do water changes I will mix fresh clean water with water from the 300 so when I move the females around their isn't a shock and kill her. Will this work?

25 Liter Tank
I am thinking about adding it on to the 37 divided and add another filter, adding more water to the system and saving me $60 on a heater. I want to house this in the tank for breeding...
3 Clown Killifish/4 Bearded Corys

This is my plan to get enough funds to help me get some L46 adults.
